7. Distraction

Dog Obedience Distraction

This technique is used to replace a dog’s unacceptable behavior with something the owner finds acceptable. If the owner finds their dog gnawing on a shoe, the owner uses a stern vocal command and then distracts the dog by having it do something else, such as giving it a bone or a toy to chew on. The dog then forgets about the shoe and instead focuses on the acceptable behavior  With repetition and catching the dog in the act, the dog will learn to differentiate its things from our things.
